Art therapy offers another language, non-verbal and symbolic, in which to express feelings about whatever has brought a child to therapy.

My Services

Individual Sessions

During 1 to 1 sessions children are offered a choice of art materials to use and are free to express any thoughts and feelings they may wish to. However, if the child would like help to begin, themes and supporting materials may also be suggested by the therapist.

Children are invited to make pictures, art objects or tell stories using images. Together, we look at what is made and think about the feelings in the pictures and stories. Art therapy is particularly helpful for children who struggle to express complex feelings or disturbing experiences verbally - they are given the opportunity to communicate these to the therapist through their art and associated stories.

Assessments, reviews and reports

Art therapy is an Allied Health Profession, ensuring effective communication within the mulit-disciplinary team supporting the children. This may involve parents, teachers, support workers, social workers and GPs to ensure the most appropriate support for each individual child.

Following GDPR and confidentiality regulations,  periodic assessments, reviews and reports are created.

Whilst what is created and discussed in art therapy sessions remains confidential, if a potential risk of harm is identified, the Safeguarding policies of both the school and the Local Authority are adhered to.

Schools need to provide

  • A private, uninterrupted space that can be used each week - It is really important that art therapy sessions take place in the same familiar space each week.
